Perhaps there should be other links like "/boot/latest-stable" or "/boot/latest-mm"? This patch is mainly usefull for x86-64-people which don't want to use lilo (like me :) ) and so don't have the "update_bootloader"-function implemented for GRUB in the POST_INSTALL of the kernel-modules. Unfortunately i forgot to add also the -f switch to "ln -s". I don't know about SATA though .. Its supposed to be a AHCI compatible controller I think. Did you try to enable AHCI support yet? The instructions are pretty akward. However, you might want to give those a try.
